My Tarot Journey
If you follow me on instagram you may already know that I have been working on the NYC Tarot, a hand drawn deck based on the Ryder-Waite Tarot that depicts magical scenes and people around my hometown, New York City! Although I've always had the idea to create a tarot deck in the back of my mind, it wasn't until about 6 months ago that my vision became clear and my life work presented itself to me and so, NYC Tarot was born!
Looking upon my past work and life experiences, I feel as though every piece of art I created led me to this. Like it was there in the shadows of my mind all along waiting for me discover it hidden among other crazy ideas and projects that would never be made. I picked it up, dusted it off, and it was shiny and bright, and it was my calling - creating this deck is what I am meant to do with my life.
I am so grateful that last year, for my 30th birthday, I gifted myself a "creating your own Tarot and Oracle deck" course with Chris-Anne Donnelly though Ethony's Tarot Summer School. It's pretty much a series of inspiring podcasts, mediations, and prompts that guide you through the journey of creating a tarot deck. Im not a very good student anymore so it was difficult for me to stick to deadlines, etc but thats ok! The most important gift I got from this course was the first guided meditation which almost immediately bought my idea to light. It was a truly magickal experience.
And so I begin, slowly but with an open mind and inspired vision. Because this is my life's work, I put a huge amount of pressure on myself (as usual) and I question every sketch, color, material choice, ugh! I'm also a stay at home mom to 3 lovely little monsters so its hard to find the time to sit down and draw all day and night (like I used to do) Nevertheless I am persisting, and so this blog will (hopefully) also be including my tarot art and the process of my work. So if there is anyone out there reading this, enjoy xo
